What we do
- IP strategy aligned with product launches, fundraising and market entry
- Trademark clearance searches and patent prior-art searches
- IP portfolio audits: what you own, where it is registered and when it renews
- Founder, employee and contractor IP assignments, a frequent gap in investor due diligence
- Licensing, technology transfer and co-development terms
- Brand protection on marketplaces and social platforms, and .IN domain disputes
- Confidentiality and trade-secret practices (India protects trade secrets mainly through contract)
For startups
Investors check that the company owns its IP. The most common problem we find is code, designs or brand assets created by founders or freelancers before incorporation, with no written assignment to the company. These gaps are simple to fix early and expensive to fix during a deal.
DPIIT-recognised startups also get reduced official fees and can request expedited examination of patent applications.
Common questions
Do we need to register IP in India if it is registered in the US or China?
Yes. Patents and trademarks are territorial. A US or Chinese registration does not protect you in India. You can extend protection through the PCT, the Paris Convention or the Madrid Protocol.
Who owns code written by a freelancer?
Under the Copyright Act, a work made by an employee in the course of employment generally belongs to the employer, but a freelancer usually owns their work unless they assign it in writing. Assignments should be signed and specific.
Can you manage our whole IP portfolio?
Yes. We keep a single schedule of your registrations, deadlines and renewals in India and coordinate filings abroad with your foreign agents.
Tell us what you are working on. We reply within one business day with next steps and a fixed-fee or retainer proposal where possible.
